Edward Lam's New Musical Opens 'Autumn IS' International Drama Season

Hong Kong director Edward Lam's musical "I Miss You, I Miss You Very Much" opened Theater YOUNG's "Autumn IS" International Drama Season, which brings together 11 international stage works.

Staged on the Chinese mainland for the first time, "I Miss You, I Miss You Very Much" marks Lam's return to large-scale theater after seven years and continues the creative lineage of his 2014 musical "Art School Musical."

The new work moves the setting from an art school to an art museum, placing the ancient butterfly lovers legend in contemporary life. Rather than simply retelling the classic love story, it stages an encounter between past and present, discusses themes like art, love and relationships.

Seven songs from "Art School Musical" have been retained and 13 new songs are added. The poetic lyrics, all written by Lam, and the simple yet inventive stage design give this experimental musical a fresh and romantic quality.

Lam has been invited to serve as the Art Recommendation Ambassador for "Autumn IS."

The Drama Season also includes stage works by Germany's Schaubühne Berlin, Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus, and Die Strotter. All of them have been selected for the 25th China Shanghai International Arts Festival.
