Pavarotti's Birthday To Be Celebrated With A Shanghai Concert
Chinese and international singers will perform classic opera arias in a concert in Shanghai to celebrate Luciano Pavarotti's 90th birthday.
Titled "The Voice, The Man, The Legend," the concert will take place on Pavarotti's birthday and will be presented by the Shanghai Opera House Orchestra and Chorus, conducted by Lu Jia, at Shanghai Symphony Hall.
Pavarotti first visited China with the Genoa Opera House in 1986, performing "La Bohème" in Beijing, giving a solo concert at the Great Hall of the People, and conducting a vocal master class at the Central Conservatory of Music.
Many Chinese music fans still remember the 2001 "Three Tenors Concert" at the Forbidden City Square featuring Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, and José Carreras.
The Pavarotti Foundation has authorized only one traditional opera-themed concert worldwide in honor of the maestro's 90th birthday.
"I have lived in Italy since my twenties and deeply understand the importance of adhering to the foundational traditions and orthodox core of opera and bel canto art," said conductor Lu. "Such a commemorative concert is profoundly meaningful, as it allows the timeless voice to continue spreading and being passed down."
The concert curated the most representative arias from Pavarotti's operatic career, covering masterpieces by composers such as Verdi, Puccini, and Donizetti. The programs cover classic operas like "La Traviata," "Rigoletto," "Macbeth," and "La Bohème."
International artists who will perform in Shanghai include dramatic tenor Yusif Eyvazov, soprano Olga Peretyatko, and tenor Gregory Kunde, who is over 70. They will share the stage with Shanghai Opera House artists including tenor Yu Haolei and soprano Xu Xiaoying.
