Saigon Soul Revival to Perform Retro Vietnamese Hits
Vietnamese band Saigon Soul Revival will be performing retro Vietnamese music, highlighting Eastern and Western tunes interwoven together that formed a unique melody belonging to Saigon (the old name of Ho Chi Minh City) in the 70s. They will be performing live at Cave Art Venue on May 10.
Saigon Soul Revival originated from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Starting from 2016, they have been performing classic hits and sounds of Saigon from the 60s and 70s. Under the influence of music brought by the US military, a unique sound of Saigon was born then, with local musicians integrating the various styles of soul, funk, rock, blues, bolero and tango with local Vietnamese melodies.
Today, Saigon Soul Revival has grasped the essence of the music back then and has added their own flavors whilst staying true to the spirit of the original work. They have cleverly integrated Vietnamese traditional instruments like the Đàn Nguyệt (moon piano), the Đàn Tranh (zither) and the Đàn Bầu (mono-string) into their works, adding a unique layer of charm and color to the contemporary music they perform, and distinguishing themselves from Western retro bands.
