'Theatre of Dreams' Returns to Shanghai for 3-Day Dance Gala
British choreographer and composer Hofesh Shechter is bringing his acclaimed "Theatre of Dreams" to the Shanghai International Dance Center again for three consecutive days, a revisit to the local venue where the contemporary dance production made its Asian premiere over a year ago.
The work, to be staged on May 1-3, blends the raw physicality of contemporary dance with cinematic soundscapes and live music. A stunning showcase of Shechter's signature style, "Theatre of Dreams" delves deep into the world of fantasy and the subconscious, revealing fears, hopes, desires and a myriad of emotions that penetrate not only the dreaming mind but also our waking thoughts.
This new full-length evening showcases the physicality and complexity of Shechter's choreography and his globally acclaimed company of dancers, as they take the audience on a wild headfirst dive into the theatre of dreams.
The dancers' bodies bring to life on stage this interplay between poetry and reality, which is further enhanced by lighting by Tom Visser and costumes by Osnat Kelner.
Born in Israel and based in London, Shechter is best known for his boundary-pushing choreography. He formed the Hofesh Shechter Company in 2008 and became its artistic director. He is recognized as one of the most exciting artists creating works for both stage and film and is renowned for composing atmospheric musical scores to complement the unique physicality of his movement style.
