Wing Chun Set to Ignite Shanghai With Power and Grace
"Wing Chun," a dance drama regarded as a cultural phenomenon both at home and abroad, will ignite Shanghai with three thrilling performances next February.
The show, directed by China's renowned choreographic duo Han Zhen and Zhou Liya, reimagines how Chinese martial arts and contemporary dance may be combined into a poetic and powerful art form.
Since its premiere in Shenzhen in 2022, "Wing Chun" has become a landmark in Chinese stage art. From viral popularity at the Bilibili New Year Gala to sold-out national tours, performances at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, and global accolades in Singapore, France and the United Kingdom, it has captivated audiences in 49 cities with its visual majesty and emotional depth.
Inspired by Ip Man and Lingnan history, the production traces a journey of light, discipline and perseverance. Cinematic staging, sophisticated storytelling and stunning choreography showcase the vitality of Chinese culture by using intangible cultural heritage like Wing Chun, baguazhang, tai chi and Chinese Xiangyunsha silk.
Tickets will go on sale on October 16 at 11:18am through West Bund Theatre and Jingying Culture's WeChat mini programs, as well as the Damai and Maoyan ticketing platforms.
