Air travel in Shanghai was disrupted after Typhoon Co-may made landfall in nearby Zhejiang Province on Wednesday morning.

Typhoon Co-may, the eighth named storm of the year, struck Zhujiajian Island in Zhoushan around 4:30am. The storm generated wind speeds of up to 23 meters per second, making it challenging to stand, snapping tree branches, and ripping doors off vehicles.

The airport authority has secured aircraft and equipment, while emergency crews remain on standby. Shops and restaurants continue to operate to support stranded passengers.

Several Shanghai carriers issued travel advisories.

China Eastern Airlines said that passengers can change their flights for free within three days of the original booking. Full refunds will be issued for any unused segments.

Juneyao Airlines warned of potential travel disruptions until August 1. It advised passengers to check official apps and hotlines for updates.

Spring Airlines is also issuing refunds and rescheduling flights without any penalty.

Travelers have been advised to keep an eye on flight changes and adjust their travel plans.
