Imagine a world with 100-fold faster internet, instantaneous surgery from thousands of miles away, and holographic calls that make your loved ones feel present. This is the promise of 6G, the next generation of mobile technology.

On Wednesday, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced that China has completed the first phase of 6G technical trials.

"With over 300 key technologies already in the bag, the country is now moving into the second phase of testing," said Xie Cun, director of the Information and Communications Development Department of the ministry.

Vice Minister Zhang Yunming said that 2025 was a landmark year for "major equipment." From massive tunneling machines to heavy-duty gas turbines, the country's manufacturing is becoming more advanced and self-reliant.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has also become a powerful engine for growth, while specialized industries are booming. The production of integrated circuits grew by 26.7 percent; the output of industrial robots jumped by 28 percent, as more factories "hire" machines to do the heavy lifting; and green travel is the new normal, with 16.49 million new energy vehicles sold in 2025 – a 28.2 percent increase.

"Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–30), the government will focus on industries of the future," said Zhang.

"We will organize and launch a series of science and technology projects, support local regions in building 'pilot zones' to test these future technologies, and increase the amount of money invested through government-backed investment funds."
