Apple Debuts Most Affordable MacBook in Historic Shanghai Launch
Apple has marked a milestone by hosting its 2026 Spring Experience event on Wednesday in Shanghai underscoring the growing importance of the Chinese market.
For the first time, China served as a primary host city, alongside New York and London, allowing local consumers to experience the latest innovations without the delay of traditional overseas launches.
The event was held in Shanghai A.F.A, an art and culture space in the downtown. Invited people and media were testing new Apple spring-released products from iPhone 17e and new MacBook models.
The event's spotlight was the all-new MacBook Neo, an entry-level laptop designed to make the Mac ecosystem more accessible. Powered by the A18 Pro chip and featuring a portable design in four colors, the MacBook Neo balances power with affordability.
With a starting price of 4,599 yuan (US$667), it is positioned as Apple's most budget-friendly laptop to date. Notably, the device's price point aligns with local government subsidy policies, potentially bringing the cost down to the 3,000-yuan range.
All new Apple products start sales in China since March 11.
By combining aggressive, consumer-friendly pricing with advanced AI integration, Apple is clearly aiming to deepen its market penetration and reach a broader demographic of young users and students across China, analysts said.
