Starting Tuesday, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is shortening the check-in cutoff time for domestic flights to 30 minutes before departure for passengers without checked luggage.

For Spring Airlines flights at Terminal 1, the cutoff time has been reduced to 25 minutes before takeoff for all passengers, including those with checked bags.

The new rule applies to domestic flights operating from Hongqiao, excluding those to Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Passengers with checked luggage on other airlines must still complete check-in at least 35 minutes before departure.

The change aims to improve travel efficiency and service quality ahead of the upcoming China International Import Expo. It follows an earlier adjustment in January, when the airport reduced the general cutoff time to 35 minutes before departure.

Coordination among the airport, airlines, and air traffic control made the shorter time window possible, according to the Shanghai Airport Authorities.

The authority reminded travelers that the cutoff time marks the end of check-in and baggage handling to ensure safe and punctual departures.

For international flights and flights destined to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, the cutoff remains 40 minutes before departure for airlines such as Cathay Pacific, Air Macau, China Airlines, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, China Eastern, and Shanghai Airlines, and 45 minutes for other carriers.

Travelers are advised to arrive early and verify their flight details with their airline.
