A Chinese woman, known by the alias Wang Nuannuan, who survived being pushed off a cliff in Thailand by her husband while pregnant in 2019, has officially divorced him, marking a new chapter in her years-long pursuit of justice.

The Qinhuai District People's Court in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, ruled on October 10 that Wang and her husband, surnamed Yu, are legally divorced. The court also ordered Yu to pay 500,000 yuan (US$70,000) in compensation.

The 2019 case drew nationwide attention after Yu pushed Wang, who was three months pregnant at the time, off a 34-meter cliff during their trip to Thailand.

She miraculously survived the fall after being caught by a tree halfway and later safely gave birth to their child. In 2023, a Thai court sentenced Yu to 33 years and 4 months in prison for attempted murder.

Wang filed for divorce in Nanjing in September 2023. Since Yu is currently serving his sentence in Thailand, the court delivered all legal documents and summonses through international judicial channels. The hearing was held in private on September 26, with Yu attending via video link.

Before the hearing, Wang spoke to reporters in an emotional interview. "I will never be ready to face such a monster, but I have to stand up and confront him," she said.
