Energy Conservation Week Focuses on Yangtze Delta Green Expansion
The 2026 Shanghai Energy Conservation Week officially kicked off today with a slate of 350 public and industrial events.
Key highlights of this year's launch include the construction of the Oasis Global Sustainable Tech Innovation Platform and the signing of a major low-carbon agreement for the Yangtze River Delta region, aiming to scale up global green technology applications and supply continuous green energy to the region.
During the opening ceremony, the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization signed an agreement with Yangtze River Delta Investment (Shanghai) Co to jointly promote the development of green and low-carbon industries in the region. They will establish deep partnerships spanning industrial innovation, shared scenario development and financial empowerment.
This cross-regional alliance, covering cities like Shanghai, Hangzhou and Suzhou, aims to build a global green technology hub and cultivate world-class green industrial clusters, advancing a regional innovation network.
The opening event also highlighted Shanghai's achievements during China's 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
During this timeframe, energy consumption per unit of added value for Shanghai's major industrial enterprises dropped by 15.7 percent, exceeding the initial 14 percent target. To date, Shanghai has established 196 national-level green factories, achieving a 30 percent green development coverage rate among key energy-consuming units.
The city has also logged vital "0 to 1" research and development (R&D) breakthroughs in cutting-edge sectors, including next-generation energy storage, green methanol, and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) for thermal power plants.
