Illegal 'Bloodletting' Clinic Busted in Shanghai After Shocking Video Sparks Outrage

Authorities in Shanghai have shut down an illegal clinic masquerading as a “health consultation” center after graphic footage showed practitioners performing crude bloodletting procedures that left pools of dark red blood on the floor, prompting public alarm and an investigation, reported Dragon TV today.

The unlicensed clinic, located in Shanghai’s Songjiang District, was raided after residents reported the operation by sharing videos online. Law enforcement officers discovered practitioners without any medical qualifications puncturing patients’ skin with long needles to drain blood, claiming the procedure could “expel negative energy.”

The video showed blood flowing from needles and pooling on the ground, surrounded by blood-soaked cotton balls and soiled gauze. Investigators said sanitary conditions were extremely poor, and no protective equipment was used during the procedures.

Officials said as much as 100 milliliters of blood was removed in a single session. The operator allegedly argued that excessive bleeding indicated “severe blockage,” a claim health authorities rejected, noting that blood coagulation after leaving the body is normal and has no relation to detoxification.

Songjiang District disease control and health supervision authorities conducted an on-site inspection, immediately halting all activities and seizing illegal medical equipment.

The main suspect, surnamed Huang, was transferred to police for criminal investigation after being caught practicing medicine without a license for the third time. Two accomplices, surnamed Luo and Liu, face administrative penalties of up to 10 times their illegal earnings.
