JD.com Confirms Paris Warehouse Theft, Denies 37m Euro Loss
Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com said yesterday that one of its warehouses in the Paris region of France was targeted in a theft, with local police having launched an investigation. The company added that the affected facility has since resumed normal operations.
In a statement to the Shanghai Securities News, JD.com said the incident occurred on December 22, Beijing time. It rejected claims circulating online that the losses were "major," saying the figures being quoted differ significantly from the actual situation.
Earlier reports, citing foreign media, alleged that a JD.com warehouse in Seine-Saint-Denis had been broken into and that more than 50,000 consumer electronics products, including smartphones, computers and tablets, were stolen, with losses estimated at around 37 million euros (US$43 million). JD.com declined to confirm those figures.
The company said it has been accelerating the expansion of its global logistics network in recent years, having established more than 130 overseas warehouses across 23 countries and regions.
