Man Bitten by Shark While Diving at Changsha Ocean Park
A man was bitten on the head and face by a shark while diving at Changsha Xiangjiang Ocean Kingdom on May 15.
The victim, surnamed Bao, told Dahe News that he had signed up for the "Blue Cave Adventure" underwater activity. He said staff members told him that even children could participate, but failed to inform him that there were sharks in the water. Shortly after he entered the water, he was attacked by a sand tiger shark about 3 meters long, sustaining injuries to his head and face. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment.
A hospital discharge certificate provided by Bao shows he was diagnosed with multiple animal bites (shark). The document also indicates an avulsion on his right temporoparietal scalp and a contusion and laceration on his right facial skin.
Bao told reporters that the park has covered his medical expenses, but negotiations regarding further compensation are ongoing.
A staff member at Changsha Xiangjiang Ocean Kingdom told Dahe News on June 15 that they are actively communicating with Bao. The diving activity involved has since been suspended for rectification.
