Phone Catches Fire After China Eastern Flight Lands in Shanghai
A passenger's mobile phone ignited after being crushed in a seat gap following the landing of China Eastern Airlines Flight MU5128 in Shanghai, prompting a swift response from cabin crew, the airline said today.
The flight departed from Beijing Capital International Airport and arrived at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport last night. According to the airline, the phone slipped into a gap between seats and was compressed, causing it to emit smoke and catch fire.
Crew members acted immediately to extinguish the flames. The airline said normal operations were not affected and passengers' onward travel proceeded as scheduled.
Earlier, passengers posted photos on social media showing smoke inside the cabin after landing, with multiple fire trucks positioned outside the aircraft.
Flight tracking data showed MU5128 departed Beijing at 9:03pm and landed in Shanghai at 10:41pm.
