Shanghai Brings Acclaimed Screen Productions to Tokyo

High-quality Shanghai-produced audiovisual content and new projects were introduced to foreign buyers on October 30 at the TIFFCOM, the content market of the ongoing 38th Tokyo International Film Festival.

During the 2025 Shanghai Showcase of Screen Productions in Tokyo, eight film and TV companies from the Chinese metropolis presented a lineup of acclaimed productions, injecting new vitality and appeal into the "Shanghai Audiovisual" brand.

In recent years, demand for Chinese productions in the Japanese market has been steadily increasing. Chinese content has been well received by major Japanese TV networks and film institutions.

Meanwhile, local Japanese streaming platforms have been acquiring an increasing number of Chinese dramas, which have generated enthusiastic viewer response. Compared with the earlier dominance of period dramas, a wider variety of contemporary, workplace, and romance series are now gaining popularity in Japan.

Linmon Media Ltd introduced its upcoming projects, including the fantasy adventure series "10 Days Till the End" and the Thai remake of the urban romance series "Nothing But Thirty."

XG Entertainment presented the development progress of the historical drama "The Long Remaining Life" adapted from Luo Xin's hit novel of the same name, and showcased its achievements in cutting-edge technology through the immersive VR film "A Female General of the Bronze Age."

Evolution Entertainment Shanghai Co Ltd also revealed the distribution plans for the acclaimed Chinese animation feature film "I Am What I Am 2" and the animation series "Heaven Official's Blessing" in the Japanese market.

According to Yu Zhiqing, deputy director of the Shanghai Broadcasting Film and Television Producers Association, China and Japan share long-standing cultural ties and close collaboration on films, television, animation, and music.

"Building on this foundation, Shanghai hopes this showcase will present its finest productions to global partners while expanding international cooperation and sharing more compelling stories of China and Shanghai with the world," Yu said.
