Shanghai Nature Festival to Highlight Science, Sustainability

The 11th Shanghai International Nature Conservation Festival will open on Saturday with environmental preservation and science popularization events.

It will feature 11 themed events through October 24, during which green development and nature conservation efforts will be highlight.

Approximately 20 experts from seven countries and regions will attend a seminar on green technology that promotes biodiversity protection and the construction of livable cities. Their discussions will yield advisory proposals that will enhance China's green development.

Eleven eco-study routes will be initiated, ranging from ecological art cycling on the Xuhui West Bund to biodiversity exploration in the Chongming wetlands.

As many as 39 Shanghai environmental education bases and 90 Shanghai environmental protection facilities will be accessible to the public during the festival.

An exhibition titled "Science Illuminates Natural Beauty" will be held at He Art Museum in Minhang District from Saturday to October 24, showcasing the use of technology such as satellite remote sensing for biodiversity monitoring and AI for endangered species identification.

The organizers received 1,933 submissions from around the world, and 100 were chosen for the exhibition.

A series of award-winning science films on China's rare species will be screened at cinemas, communities, and schools in the city during the event.

An exhibition at Shanghai Zoo will emphasize the ecological partnership between Shanghai and Yunnan Province from November 1 to 16. Using interactive displays, it recounts the tales of collaborative ecological preservation from the upper to lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

It includes models of Yunnan snub-nosed monkeys and bird habitats that were collaboratively developed by Shanghai youth, scientists, and artists.
