Chinese AI unicorn StepFun launched the STEPX Neo, the first mass-market "agentic" smartphone.

Instead of app-centric designs, the device has a built-in AI agent that can autonomously complete complex, multi-step, end-to-end tasks without the need for multiple apps or prompts.

The smartphone, powered by Step Agentic-native OS, will debut at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai on Friday.

"This device launch officially connects the complete loop from foundation models and agent systems straight to hardware terminals," said StepFun Chairman Yin Qi.

StepFun announced ecosystem partnerships with Trip.com, Alipay, Didi, Meituan, WPS, and ByteDance's Jianying but did not reveal the STEPX Neo's retail price.

Shanghai startup completed a 5 billion yuan (US$719 million) fundraising round in January.

STEPX Neo is a major step in StepFun's rapid hardware expansion. According to a previous statement, the company had deeply integrated its AI models into more than 42 million devices by 2025, including 60 percent of China's top smartphone brands like Oppo, Honor, and ZTE.

The announcement prepares for a competitive WAIC, where Honor and ZTE will also unveil their AI-driven mobile innovations.
