Willem II has issued an official apology and launched an investigation after a supporter directed a racist gesture at Chinese forward Wang Bohao during Sunday's Eredivisie round 30 match against FC Den Bosch, which ended in a 1-1 away draw, The Paper reported today.

The incident occurred in the 84th minute, shortly after the referee showed Wang a yellow card. A spectator in the stands made the "pulling of the eyelid" motion — a widely recognized racist caricature targeting people of East Asian descent.

In a statement released yesterday, Willem II confirmed the incident was captured on match footage. "We have viewed the video footage and can confirm that a member of our support directed a racist gesture toward an FC Den Bosch player," the club said. "This matter is treated with the utmost seriousness."

The club has contacted FC Den Bosch to apologize on behalf of the supporter and to Wang directly. "Racism and discrimination have no place in football, stadiums, or our society," Willem II added. "We stand for unity and respect, and every person deserves to feel safe and welcome within our walls."

Authorities have identified the individual via surveillance footage. The club said it is conducting a thorough review of the incident and will impose appropriate sanctions.

FC Den Bosch also released a strong statement reaffirming its support for Wang. "What happened to our player Wang Bohao on Sunday was deeply upsetting and distressing — for him, and for anyone who loves football simply to enjoy the sport," the club stated.

"Making the 'pulling the eyelid' gesture because a player is Asian is not a joke, not part of the game, and it is racism," the club emphasized. "Wang is not alone. We stand with him, and with all players who face such abuse."

The club praised Willem II's rapid response, noting, "We appreciate that Willem II is taking this seriously, contacting us, and addressing the issue firmly."
