Golden Week Traffic Jam? This Pilot Just Flies Over It
As millions of motorists were stranded in gridlock during China's National Day holiday, one man in Anhui Province took to the skies – flying a plane home.
Wang, a flight coach, flies about 300 kilometers to his hometown of Bozhou during major holidays, according to Red Star News. The journey takes around 80 minutes, compared with three and a half hours by car.
The aircraft, which cost more than 1 million yuan (US$137,000), has only two seats. Wang typically flies one plane with his daughter while his wife operates another. The trip costs a little over 200 yuan in fuel, he said.
"My daughter's so used to it now – she usually sleeps through the whole trip," Wang told reporters.
He added that the flights have become routine, and neighbors are no longer surprised when he lands at home.
"When I see cars stuck on the highway, I don't feel superior," he said. "People in my hometown are already used to me flying back."
