A thoughtful patient in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, presented a hand-drawn gift to medical staff to thank them for their hard work, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 62-year-old patient, surnamed Liao, had planned to enjoy the Spring Festival holiday with his daughter in Australia, but a sudden burst of disease forced him to return home for treatment.

Liao was admitted to the Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital on January 25 where he was diagnosed with a liver abscess.

During his stay in hospital that lasted more than 20 days, the avid drawer recorded daily life with his pen.

Liao selected some of his best drawings and presented them to medical staff as a gift, together with a thank-you letter, on the day he left the hospital.

"It makes me feel very warm," a doctor named Tang Xiaoying said. "It encouraged me to work even harder and provide better services for our patients in the future."
