2025-09-04 to 2025-09-07Hit songs from German musicals like "Rebecca," "Mozart!" and "Elisabeth" are being performed at a star-studded concert titled "Sylvester Levay and His Friends" at Shanghai Culture Square this week.
The concert is dedicated to the 80th birthday of German legendary composer Levay. It was staged in Vienna, Austria, in May, and Shanghai is the only other city to host it.

Over 30 hit songs from seven musicals jointly created by Levay and librettist Michael Kunze will be performed. The musicals are: "Elisabeth," "Mozart!" "Rebecca," "Beethoven Secret," "Marie Antoinette," "Lady Bess," and "Crest of the Royal Family."
The complete staged concert versions of "Elisabeth" and "Rebecca" were staged at Shanghai Culture Square last year.

The concert brings together nine representative musical actors from the European German-language musical circle.
Annemieke van Dam has successfully portrayed the lead role of Sisi in "Elisabeth" in three languages – German, English, and Dutch. Mark Seibert is an audience favorite for his highly dramatic and metallic-toned voice.

Other performers include Lukas Perman, Yngve Gasoy-Romdal, Drew Sarich, Barbara Obermeier, Milica Jovanovic, André Bauer, and Wietske van Tongeren.
A 30-member orchestra will provide live music on stage to take audiences on a memorable musical journey. Dancers from Germany and Austria, and the Shanghai Culture Square chorus will also join the performance.
