Speed and Freestyle Battles as Jump Rope Elites Return to Baoshan
Speed contests and head-to-head freestyle battles will bring international jump rope competition to Shanghai's suburban Baoshan District on October 24-25, with activities for visitors beyond the competition floor.
The 2026 Shanghai International Jump Rope Elite Competition will take place at Baoshan Xinyefang in Gaojing Town. Nearly 200 athletes from 12 countries and regions across four continents are expected.
The program offers three different tests: speed, endurance and technique. The all-around competition combines a 30-second speed event, a three-minute endurance event and an individual freestyle routine.
Separate freestyle battles will pit competitors against one another in knockout rounds, performing to music played by a DJ. Challenge events round out the competition program, which follows International Jump Rope Union rules.
Away from the competitive action, organizers plan four activity areas covering traditional crafts, sports experiences, market stalls and performances. The accompanying carnival will include craft displays, photo spots, stage shows and a float parade.
Spectators will be able to use their event tickets to obtain discounts at participating shopping destinations and cultural and tourist attractions.
Gaojing's freestyle rope skipping is listed as part of Baoshan's intangible cultural heritage, recognizing it as a local cultural practice.
For those watching from home, livestreams are planned on the Shanghai Baoshan WeChat account, Douyin and Migu.
