Floral Wonderland: A Flower Show, Art Walk & Weekend Hangout
Floral Wonderland 2026 is set to bloom at Shanghai Expo Culture Park this month, bringing together rare plants and contemporary sculpture in one of the season's most eye-catching outdoor shows.
Running from February 14 to May 20, the exhibition is the first official spin-off event of the 2026 Shanghai International Flower Show. Staged inside the World Garden, it unfolds across 16 themed garden scenes inspired by classical Chinese landscaping, designed to reveal shifting views as visitors move through the space.
The plants are the main draw. More than 500 rare specimens will make their Shanghai debut, including weeping plum, cherry, azalea and wisteria. Highlights include over 100 weeping plum trees across 20 varieties – some reaching 10 meters tall – shown in the city for the first time.
The display changes with the season. Late March brings a blush-pink canopy formed by more than 100 weeping cherry trees, followed by oversized azaleas and cascades of wisteria from mid-March to early May, with dozens of varieties spilling purple blooms like waterfalls.
From late April to early May, newly bred German iris varieties deliver a burst of color in what organizers describe as a "rainbow" showcase.
Breaking away from the format of a traditional flower show, Floral Wonderland also blends rare plant displays with large-scale contemporary sculpture.
In collaboration with Shanghai HOW Art Museum, the exhibition features 19 outdoor works by seven leading Chinese and international artists – Chen Wenling, Chen Zhiguang, Cai Zhongsong, Daniel Arsham, Han Yitian, Huang Yulong and Jian Ming – dotted across the gardens.
There's more beyond the blooms. During the exhibition period, the park will host two themed markets: an art market showcasing contemporary art, design and lifestyle pieces, and a food-focused fair bringing street eats and seasonal bites into the park setting.
Visitors can also join a stamp-collecting trail, with completed routes redeemable for limited-edition souvenirs. A small line of exhibition-themed merchandise – including scarves and plush collectibles – rounds out the experience.
Think of it as a flower show, art walk and weekend hangout rolled into one.
