'Art To Gather' Brings International Performances to Xintiandi
The third edition of the urban arts event "Art To Gather" will begin on September 25 at various Xintiandi locations in Shanghai, Wuhan, and Chongqing.
The festival will run until October 7, coinciding with the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 25–27) and the National Day holiday (October 1–7).
The creative initiatives bring art to open-air neighborhoods, public areas, and commercial spaces, making them places where people can wander, pause, and participate.
Xintiandi's streets, plazas, and corners will feature performances, installations, music, and interactive experiences.
There will be more than 170 performances, including international premieres and original productions inspired by the character of each city.
The Shanghai, Ruihong, and Hongqiao Xintiandi neighborhoods will host parades, theater, music, dance, puppetry, magic, and family-friendly interactive performances.
Among the highlights is "The Wanderer," an original show created by the team at ONE HUNDRED, whose members were previously involved in the immersive theater production "Sleep No More."
Blending theater, dance, music, and spatial storytelling, the production transforms Xintiandi's streets and the atmosphere of a Mid-Autumn night into an immersive stage.
The Jade Rabbit, "the Wanderer," and the celestial dancer, "the Heavenly Maiden," move through the crowds, inviting audiences to join them on an urban journey where reality and dreams intertwine.
Beneath a giant moon installation, American singer-songwriter Anson Seabra will perform songs including his signature track "Peter Pan Was Right." He will explore themes of growing up, imagination, and self-discovery, creating an emotional connection with audiences.
French street theater Picto Facto will light up the neighborhoods after dark with a display of illuminated art installations. Italian theater company Teatro per Caso will bring its poetic immersive stilt performance "Swan Dream," while the Argentine puppet production "Simon's Circus Show" will also take the stage.
The National Chamber Orchestra of Armenia will present a special performance at Hongqiao Xintiandi. As a key stop on the ensemble's 2026 China tour, the performance will bring high-quality international music closer to the public through classical interpretations featuring traditional instruments.
