Historic Chang'an Comes Alive in Musical, Starring Laurent Ban
The musical "The Longest Day in Chang'an," inspired by the historical novel by Chinese writer Ma Boyong, will be staged at the Grand Shanghai Theater from November 13 to 15.
Featuring renowned French musical singer Laurent Ban, this production is part of the 5th Yangtze River Delta City Drama Season, which comprises 12 shows.
The story takes place on the eve of the Lantern Festival in the third year of the Tang Dynasty's Tianbao era. A crisis is quietly brewing in the shadows, including kidnappings, assassinations, and city-wide arson.

Laurent Ban, popular among China's French musical followers, plays a villainous leader in this musical. He has performed his title song "Le Chef" at this year's Dragon TV Spring Festival Gala.
The Yangtze River Delta City Drama Season lasts from September to December. Other notable performances include rising director Ding Yiteng's new drama "Shoplifters," which is based on Japanese film director Hirokazu Koreeda's award-winning film of the same name.
DrumTower West Theater's "Tofu," English musical "The Last Self Tape," and dance drama "Zhao Jun" centered on the peace-making beauty cloaked in tragedy, are all worth seeing.
