West Bund Summer Festival kicks off with music, Lego, and family fun

The curtain has been raised on the 2025 Summer Festival at Gate M, West Bund Dream Center in downtown Xuhui District.

Open-air theater and music fountain, diverse waterfront art activities and trendy consumer experiences will combine to offer residents and tourists a vibrant and unforgettable summer along the shoreline of the West Bund.

The fountain invites visitors to embark on a dreamlike journey of symphony and water-curtain light and shadow. People can interact with the fountain from 11am to 5pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. From 6pm to 9pm also on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, music performances will be presented there to provide visitors with visual and auditory fun.

The Lego Group will celebrate its World Play Day with interesting activities at Gate M, bringing creative and fun waterfront adventures for families and Lego blocks enthusiasts.

Pop-up music performances of different styles will be staged this summer. In mid-July, the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra will bring a show that is tailor-made for the festival. The show features over 10 beautiful scores, such as "Wish You Were Here" and "La Bamba."

Musicians from Italy will also bring classic instrumental pieces such as Gioacchino Rossini's "The Barber of Seville: Overture" and Beethoven's waltz.

The festival will run through the end of August, when the waterfront outdoor theater will officially open. Locals and tourists can enjoy amazing river views while experiencing the charm of film. Meanwhile, many merchants at Gate M will extend their summertime business hours to support people's leisure consumption.
