Qatar strengthened its diplomatic presence in China with the opening of a consulate general in Shanghai on Sept 5.

The new consulate, located in the Jinmao Tower in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, brings the total number of foreign consulates in Shanghai to 77 and marks Qatar's third consular representation in China. Rashid Mubarak Al-Khater was appointed as the first consul general.

Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1988, China and Qatar have expanded cooperation across numerous fields under the guidance of both countries' leaders.

China has been Qatar's largest trading partner, main source of imports, and primary destination for exports for years.

The consulate, located at Room 2201, Jinmao Tower on No 88 Century Avenue, serves Shanghai, as well as Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces.

Contact is available by phone at 86-21-6105 1000 and fax at 86-21-3855 1372.
