Shanghai offers digital record for child vaccinations
All children born in Shanghai after June 1, including expat children, can have a digital record of their vaccination on the city government-run Suishenban (随申办) app.
The service is to make it easier to check the child's vaccination history. Local residents also can choose vaccination clinics, date, time and vaccine producers and brands on the system to smooth the vaccination process and meet individual demands, local health officials said on Wednesday.
An English version will be available soon and Japanese, Korean, French, Germany and Arabic will also be included, according to Wu Liming, vice director of Shanghai Bureau of Disease Control and Prevention.
"We will also gradually expand the service to a bigger population. The service firstly introduced is for children born after January 1 this year and we quickly expanded it to all children under 7 years old to convenience their entry to kindergarten and primary school," Wu said. "During vaccination, parents only need to scan their QR code at the clinic to complete the process."
The service will also be expanded to cover students and others going abroad.
Officials say the city has established an information system covering the entire chain of vaccination from the health database, vaccination management, and vaccine delivery to ensure safety.
"This time, we upgrade the system to better management, enhance service and convenience for the residents, who can check and reserve their own vaccination at the Suishenban (随申办) application. The newly introduced digital vaccination record allows parents to apply and print vaccination documents very conveniently," Wu said.
"We also use AI models and big data to include vaccination services into a whole life management by sending individualized vaccination suggestions and knowledge to residents to better meet their demands," Wu said. "More individualized vaccination plans for adults covering flu, pneumonia and shingles will also be introduced soon."
