The Hongkou Greenery Management Center has announced the partial closures of Luxun Park and Heping Park for landscape improvement and safety maintenance on Tuesday.

Recreational areas like playgrounds, sports fields, and plazas will be closed to the public until February 8, 2026.

The maintenance aims to prune and maintain tall trees, upgrade facilities, and improve safety within the parks.

"The construction is necessary to ensure visitor safety and enhance the parks' greenery," the district's greenery authority said.

At Luxun Park, South Square, Sweet Love Garden, Children's Playground, West Gate Square, Cherry Blossom Square, and several scenic zones, including Plum Garden and Birds' Hill, will remain closed.

At Heping Park, the affected areas include the children's playground, main paths near Gates 3, 4, and 6, and several lawns and green spaces such as Sunshine Lawn and Bamboo Bridge Creek.

Officials said the exact closure schedule may change based on on-site conditions. Visitors are advised to follow safety signs and staff instructions during construction.

Established in 1896 as a shooting range, Luxun Park became Hongkou Park in 1922. Known for the 1932 bombing carried out by Korean nationalist Yun Bong-gil to resist Japanese aggression, the site was renamed in 1988 to honor the writer Lu Xun, whose tomb lies within its grounds.

Heping Park opened in 1958 as Tilan Park. It was later renamed Heping, which translates to "peace." It remains a popular green space for residents.
