In a tip-top harmonious fusion of music, technology and gastronomy, the Shanghai Philharmonic Space — a richly sonorous collaboration between the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra and restaurant service provider J.Meet Viands — was unveiled on June 9.

It's transforming a historic block in the city into a captivating open-air concert hall that promises to redefine the cultural landscape of Shanghai.

Located opposite the iconic Wukang Building, the Shanghai Philharmonic Space made its grand entrance with a surprise performance by musicians from the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. It captivated both tourists and locals who braved the rain to witness the inaugural event on the inviting terrace.

At the heart of this innovative space lies a seamless integration of music culture and cutting-edge technology.

On stepping inside, visitors are greeted by AI-animated portraits of legendary composers such as Bach, Mozart and Beethoven.

These dynamic canvases come to life as the composers turn pages, play the piano and seemingly lock eyes with onlookers — evoking a sense of enchantment reminiscent of the magical paintings in the world of Harry Potter.

Dutch conductor Hubert Soudant said he was impressed by the immersive experience and he lauded the installation as being "quite amazing" — envisioning the Shanghai Philharmonic Space as a potential global hub for artists to converge and collaborate.

Another captivating feature of the space is a wall adorned with striking concert photos showcasing the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra's many performances with international maestros.

Beyond its musical allure, the Shanghai Philharmonic Space aims to tantalize the taste buds of its patrons with an innovative gastronomic experience.

Visitors can indulge in delectable offerings such as roast chicken and steak, complemented by a selection of fine coffee and wine, all while basking within the picturesque surrounds of the historic Wukang Building.

Most notably, the Shanghai Philharmonic Space embraces the trendy concept known as the "ticket stub economy" — where holders of Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra concert stubs are treated to exclusive discounts and privileges.
