SHUTCM international students excel in national TCM clinical skills competition

Four international students from the International Education College of the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine achieved remarkable results at the "Hua Tuo Cup" National Clinical Skills Competition of Acupuncture-Moxibustion and Tuina in Universities, which was held in Xianyang, Shaanxi province, from Oct 17 to 19.

The students earned three gold, two silver, and one bronze medal, with Lau Jie Ying (刘洁莹) taking first prize in the individual all-around category.

During the three-day competition, students from China and abroad showcased their expertise. SHUTCM’s team — Puah Xian Liew, Lau Jie Ying, Koo Sheng Hui, and Niwa Toshihiro —competed in the overseas students' division.

The team demonstrated a solid theoretical foundation, proficient practical skills, and steady performance, excelling across multiple competition segments. Their achievements included first prize in the individual all-around; first, second, and third prizes in acupoint location; second prize in the acupuncture technique; first prize in warm needle moxibustion; and an award for outstanding individual performance.

Reflecting on the competition, Lau Jie Ying said that it had not only enhanced her professional skills but also deepened her appreciation for the profound culture of traditional Chinese medicine.

The event was not only a contest of professional skills but also a platform for the exchange and promotion of TCM culture. Through hands-on practices, participants deepened their understanding and appreciation of this rich traditional Chinese heritage.
