The third Pudong Shipping Week has opened in Shanghai, a leading international maritime center, with a focus on the industry's digital transformation and the construction of a new industrial ecosystem with the help of artificial intelligence.

The six-day event, which opened yesterday under the theme "Navigating an Intelligent and Diverse Ecosystem," has drawn over 420 industry representatives to the opening ceremony from around the world, with digital intelligence emerging as the keyword. In addition, it features over 40 series of events covering shipping finance, maritime arbitration, the low-altitude economy, and other frontier areas.

The 2025 Pudong High-End Shipping Service Innovation Projects were released during the opening ceremony, focusing on green low-carbon development, efficient energy utilization, and digital transformation, aiming to bolster Shanghai's status as an international maritime center.

Key innovations included China Cosco Shipping's large language model for the maritime judiciary, Bisheng Logistics Technology's AI-empowered full-link smart service platform, and Mairun Intelligent Technology's situational awareness solution for Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships. In addition, the Transported Asset Protection Association issued new cybersecurity standards for the supply chain.

The Ministry of Transport's Transport Planning and Research Institute and Shanghai Maritime University jointly released a report on the Development of Shipping Centers With Chinese Characteristics, establishing a first-of-its-kind evaluation index system for shipping centers with Chinese characteristics and offering a multi-dimensional assessment that combines the unique advantages of China's major port cities to propose innovative development paths.

A batch of high-level projects by Cosco Shipping's Advanced Shipping Technology Research Institute, China Coal Greenland, and Shandong Ocean Shipping also landed in Pudong. These cover shipping technology innovation, cross-border supply chain management, new energy vessels, services helping companies expand overseas, and other areas, further enhancing the regional supply chain.

The Pudong Shipping Week has seen a significant rise in international participation, with first-time attendees accounting for 70 percent of the total. London International Shipping Week has joined for the first time, with its operator to host an International Maritime Roundtable Summit and business networking events.

Senior executives from international organizations and multinationals, including the Baltic and International Maritime Council, the London P&I Club, DHL Global Forwarding, and DNV Group, gathered to hold high-level talks on decarbonization and net-zero emissions, supply chain resilience, marine insurance, and other topics.

Jointly organized by the government of Pudong New Area and the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission, the Pudong Shipping Week expects to welcome more than 6,000 participants this year.
