3 Officials Detained Over Sexual Assault Allegations in S. China's Guangxi
Three public officials have been detained and removed from their posts on suspicion of sexually assaulting two women following a drinking session, according to an official statement released today by the local government in Baise, south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Preliminary investigations found that two male suspects, surnamed La and Nong, both public officials in Lingyun County, are accused of sexually assaulting the two women after they became drunk during a group dinner. Another man, surnamed Xie, is also suspected of involvement in the criminal activity. All three have been criminally detained.
The case remains under further investigation. The three suspects have been removed from their positions through legal procedures, and disciplinary inspection authorities have initiated a review and investigation into their conduct.
