Two suspects have been detained in southwest China's Chongqing after online footage sparked allegations of covert filming in a women's changing room at a local hot spring hotel, police said on Tuesday.

A 32-year-old man surnamed Shi and his 19-year-old girlfriend, surnamed Zhou, were arrested at around 7am on December 9, according to the police statement.

Preliminary investigations found that Shi had conspired with Zhou in advance, with Zhou entering the women's changing room of the hot spring hotel to secretly film female guests, police said.

Both suspects have been placed under criminal detention, and the case remains under investigation.

The case drew widespread attention after a social media user posted images said to have been taken from an abnormal angle inside a changing room, alleging that multiple women at Chongqing Ronghui Hot Spring had been secretly filmed.

The hot spring hotel operator said in a statement on Monday that it was fully cooperating with the investigation, Jiupai News reported.
