China's Osaka Consulate Issues Travel Alert Over Violent Robbery
The Chinese consulate general in Osaka issued a security alert today after a Chinese citizen was robbed in the city yesterday. Citing a recent deterioration of public security and a rise in similar cases, the consulate renewed its reminder for Chinese nationals to avoid traveling to Japan.
The Chinese citizen was attacked by unknown assailants on the street in Sumiyoshi Ward, Osaka. The victim's backpack containing 5 million yen (US$32,045) in cash was stolen, and the suspect remains at large.
The consulate general immediately contacted local police, demanding a speedy investigation and effective protection of the life and property safety of Chinese citizens in Japan.
It urged Chinese nationals in its consular district to closely monitor the local security situation, enhance safety awareness, refrain from carrying large sums of cash, and strengthen risk prevention and self-protection.
