Cervical surgery sensation! Local doctors save man with broken neck

A patient, whose neck was broken in a work-site accident, was saved by doctors from Shanghai's Changzheng Hospital.

The man, a construction worker, was injured by a mechanical arm at a construction site. He suffered cardiac arrest and high paraplegia on the scene. After the emergency response, he regained consciousness but with weak life signs. Further checks revealed that his cervical vertebra was largely dislocated, causing a serious spinal cord bruise and a major blood vessel tear.

The huge injury meant the patient had extremely low blood pressure and faced a death threat from the large hemorrhage and cerebral infarction.

During the surgery, doctors relocated the cervical vertebra and creatively introduced a novel fixed technology to increase the stability of the reconstructed cervical vertebra.

The patient recovered very quickly. He regained consciousness soon after surgery and his life indicators are all turning stable. He has since been discharged and is undergoing further rehabilitation at home. The man is now able to sit with help from his family.
