Citywide Luggage Delivery System Proposed
Travelers arriving in Shanghai often want to start exploring the city right away, but heavy luggage can quickly slow them down.
In a joint proposal led by Wang Haitao, more than 40 political advisors have proposed a citywide luggage delivery system to let visitors send bags between airports, railway stations, hotels, and event venues.
The advisors claim that it would improve travel convenience and support the upgrading of Shanghai's cultural and tourism services.
Under the proposal, the city's cultural and tourism authorities should lead the effort in coordination with transport agencies, Metro operators, logistics companies, scenic areas, and event organizers. Luggage would be delivered point-to-point, supporting smoother transfers across the city.
A dedicated digital platform has also been proposed, allowing users to place orders, make payments, and track luggage in real-time, with a "one-click transfer" function that enables quick arrangements after arrival.
Dedicated delivery points could be set up at exhibition centers and stadiums, with flexible same-city and intercity shipping options to meet time-sensitive needs.
Accessibility is another focus. A bilingual service counter in tourist areas and a 24-hour hotline should be set up to help foreign visitors, elderly travelers, and others who are less comfortable using mobilephone apps.
To ensure safety, the advisors suggest using digital tracking technologies and working with insurance providers to protect luggage throughout the delivery process.
The proposal aims to make getting around Shanghai simpler and lighter, allowing travelers to focus on their journey rather than their suitcases.
