Design your own dinosaur-themed mini program
As part of its blockbuster "China's Dinosaur World" exhibition, Shanghai Natural History Museum has launched a new digital initiative encouraging young minds to reimagine dinosaurs through tech.
Co-hosted with Tencent's WeChat Innovation Lab, the creative coding contest invites young minds aged 6 to 18 and their parents to design dinosaur-themed mini programs. The free, bilingual (Chinese-English) platform is now available at edu.weixin.qq.com.
The goal is to spark curiosity and hands-on learning by combining paleontology with AI and coding.
The contest builds on the momentum of the "China's Dinosaur World" exhibition, the largest showcase of Chinese dinosaur fossils, featuring 118 specimens and models from 12 top institutions, including 80 first-class protected fossils and 42 holotypes.
To deepen the experience, the museum also launched "Inner Mongolia Theme Week" on Saturday.
Co-curated with the Inner Mongolia Museum of Natural History, it highlights one of China's richest fossil regions and its rare dinosaur discoveries, while celebrating local prairie culture through a 4D film, folk performances, science talks, and hands-on workshops.
