Foreign Student Detained, Expelled After Dormitory Molestation at Chinese University
A male international student at China Three Gorges University in Yichang, central China's Hubei Province, has been criminally detained and expelled after allegedly climbing into a women's dormitory and molested a student, university authorities and police confirmed on Wednesday.
The incident, which has sparked online outrage and raised security concerns, occurred in the early hours of October 25.
A source familiar with the situation told the Shanghai Morning Post that the women's dormitory faces the international student apartments directly across a road. The same building had previously reported incidents, including missing underwear, leading the university to install anti-climb steel spikes on first-floor windows.
Following this recent attack, additional security measures, including barbed wire fencing, have been added to the second-floor exterior of the building.
The suspect, whose name, nationality and age were not revealed, remains in criminal detention, and the university has expelled him in line with disciplinary regulations.
An investigation is ongoing.
