Shanghai Museum to drop reservation rule from Sept 1

Starting from September 1, visitors to Shanghai Museum at People's Square will no longer need to make reservations in advance but can walk in with just a valid ID (identity document).
Reservations will still be required during national holidays, school vacations and major exhibitions. Bookings can be made up to 14 days in advance via the museum's WeChat account (上海博物馆) or its website.
The change follows a trial run at the museum's East Branch in Pudong.

Opening hours: 9am-5pm (last entry at 4pm); closed on Mondays except public holidays

Entry rules:
- Individuals: Enter via the South Gate with ID.
- Groups (20+): Phone booking required at least 7 days in advance (+86-21-63724550).
- Priority passage: For seniors (65+) and people with disabilities; not valid for ticketed exhibitions.

Special exhibitions require tickets, and crowd control may apply.
