Shanghai's AI Computing Power Hits 120,000P
Shanghai's total artificial intelligence computing capacity has surpassed 120,000 petaflops, marking a milestone in the AI infrastructure race in China and worldwide.
Industry officials in Shanghai, meanwhile, announced the launch of various platforms aimed at enhancing the AI ecosystem and developing the AI industry.
Looking ahead to the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030), Shanghai is adopting a "moderately advanced" AI infrastructure construction strategy. The goal is to build a self-controllable ecosystem, accelerating the large-scale deployment of locally produced AI chips.
The city has established a complete industrial chain covering everything from high-end chips and servers to computing scheduling and vertical industry applications.
The AI Industry High-Quality Development Initiative is led by Shanghai Instrument & Electronics (INESA) along with several industry leaders, including Alibaba and Huawei. The initiative aims to construct next-generation computing centers equipped with high-efficiency servers and high-density cabinets.
Leading domestic GPU firms, sometimes dubbed as "China Nvidias," are also participating in the initiative. The initiative includes MetaX, Biren Technology, and Iluvatar Core, all of which have listed in Shanghai and Hong Kong.
These companies showcased new technological breakthroughs in scientific computing GPUs and large-scale cluster management, including some GPU innovation specifically for science research.
