Thailand's highest-grossing film of 2026, "Gohan," was screened during the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival.

Produced by GDH, the studio behind "How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies" and "Bad Genius," the film follows a white stray dog with a pink, heart-shaped nose. Across a decade-long life on the streets, it bonds with three successive owners: a retiring engineer, a female migrant worker and a college couple.

At a meet-and-greet event held on June 20, the director and lead actors shared behind-the-scenes stories from the film's production with the audience.

Nattawut Poonpiriya said the dog that plays Gohan in old age was one he had rescued by chance during a trip to Chiang Mai.

"At first, I just felt sorry for its suffering and took it to the hospital for treatment," Poonpiriya explained. "Later, we realized its appearance closely matched that of the dog in the film, so we were delighted to have it join the production team."

Convinced that protecting stray animals is a responsibility everyone shares, he urged the public to pay more attention to the vulnerable group and show them care.

"Gohan" will be released across the Chinese mainland on June 26.
