University Student Punished for Dishonest Behavior in Competition Bonus Distribution

May 19, 2026

A student at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has been punished with a severe warning and removed from a talent program for dishonest behavior in competition bonus distribution.

The decision was announced in a notification released on Monday by the College of Smart Energy, an institution jointly launched by the university and State Power Investment Group Corporation.

According to the document, the college recently received tip-off from a pupil that one of its students had indulged in improper behavior regarding the distribution of bonus from a competition. The university and the college set up a special working group to look into the problem.

The investigation found that a student surnamed Fan from the college had participated in the first National "AI + Energy" College Student Technological Innovation Competition and won an award. She was found to have engaged in dishonest behaviors such as forging the bonus collection record and concealing the amount of the bonus during the distribution process.

The college decided to give Fan a severe warning, terminated her qualification as a candidate for the Communist Party of China, removed her from the university's "Rongchang Talent Reserve Program," and revoked her provisional admission qualification for major transfer.

Fan has also voluntarily withdrawn from the relevant summer school on her own initiative, the college said.

It emphasized that the university adheres to a "zero-tolerance" attitude towards dishonest behaviors. Once verified, it will handle such cases seriously in accordance with relevant regulations.
