Xuhang Farmers Kick Off the Harvest Season

Xuhang Town in Shanghai's Jiading District began harvesting the first batch of "National Day Rice" on September 15.

At Shanghai Aihui Grain, Vegetable and Fruit Cooperative in Anxin Village, golden rice waved in the wind, and harvesters moved around the fields.

The harvesting of "National Day Rice" covers an area of about 20 mu (1.33 hectares), and this variety is favored by citizens for its fragrance, softness and glutinous texture.

After the harvest, the rice was dried and processed immediately and hit the market in late September.

Ding Huide, the head of the cooperative, said that this year they experimented with soilless substrate rice seedling-raising technology for the first time, resulting in overall good rice growth.

The expected per mu yield will be higher than that of previous years, reaching about 450-500 kilograms.

Xuhang also planted other varieties this year, with the total area of "National Day Rice" reaching about 60 mu.

Other cooperatives will also start harvesting one after another.
