A man in China has gone viral on Douyin after discovering that his temporary ID card was printed with a half-naked photo he accidentally submitted during facial recognition.

The man, surnamed Liu, shared his embarrassing experience in a recent video. He said that after collecting his temporary ID, he noticed that every staff member who handled it would pause for a moment. Confused, he checked the card himself – only to realize that the ID photo showed him half-clothed.

"I took that photo casually while lying in bed. When the staff returned my phone, that's when I realized what I had uploaded," Liu said in a video.

The video has resonated widely on Douyin, racking up over 1.46 million likes and more than 2.83 million shares.

The mishaps occur because users are unaware that the photos taken during facial recognition will be used for their ID photo. Furthermore, they believe that only the small facial circle visible on the screen will be captured.

Netizens flooded the comments to share similar experiences: Some said they took photos for their temporary ID while using the bathroom, others while brushing their teeth, and some right after waking up with messy hair.

However, as several back-end reviewers explained in the comments, the system actually collects the full frame captured by the camera, including the upper body and surrounding environment. They revealed that it is common for them to see users completing facial verification while sitting on toilets, lying in bed, or even taking a shower.

Here is the advice: Always be fully dressed and aware of the background before taking an ID photo.
