A list of animal adoption communities in Shanghai

The animal rescue and adoption communities serve as beacons of hope for our furry friends in need in Shanghai.

According to the Shanghai Small Animal Rescue and Adoption Public Welfare Service Center, there were more than 110,000 stray dogs and nearly 270,000 stray cats in the city in 2020.

These rescue and adoption communities serve as shelters where the collective efforts of animal lovers work to improve the lives of animals and match them with loving homes.

If you're looking to expand your family or become a part of this activity, here are some communities to consider.

1. Shanghai Adoption Day

WeChat account: shanghailingyangri

Shanghai Adoption Day is a local non-profit platform focusing on helping homeless pets find a sweet home.

As an advocate of using pet adoption to replace purchase, the platform has organized adoption and pet care events and saved countless stray animals, granting them a fresh lease on life.

Its "Trap Neuter Release" (TNR) project, which helps stray animals receive sterilization operations from pet hospitals, has been running for four years.

By August 20, more than 30 local pet hospitals were cooperating in this project.

It also looks for volunteers to provide short-term or long-term shelter for stray animals.

People can delve into its official WeChat account to stay abreast of their ongoing endeavors.

There, it frequently disseminates articles on animal rescue and fostering, providing invaluable guidance to novice families.

Additionally, it has introduced a WeChat mini-program to promptly circulate information regarding stray and lost pets. The link to the mini-program can be accessed here: #小程序://领宠宠/EjSS1fvnXK7Cx5h.

This month, it provides six adoption events, especially for Teddy bear dogs, bichon frise, hamsters, kittens, cow cats, black cats, ginger cats, yellow dogs, and other local country cat and dog breeds.

2. TA Shanghai

WeChat account: TA-Shanghai

TA Shanghai is a passionate and caring platform for stray animal rescuers to communicate and support each other. On occasion, this platform shares narratives of small animal rescues and recounts the sagas of these dedicated rescuers.

It was founded in 2011 by Chris Lau, a Malaysian Chinese who lived in Shanghai for over two decades, with its advocacy based on "rational rescuing, scientific pet raising, and preferring adoption to purchase."
Many of its volunteers, coming from all walks of life, are young people.
For them, doing charity is as normal as buying a cup of coffee on the street corner, and everyone could do that.

Even if one pets a cat or dog at the adoption fair and takes photos to share them on social media, it counts as participating in charity events.
TA Shanghai has also worked with fashion brands and celebrities to promote a lifestyle where people and animals can live in harmony.
In addition, it organizes regular in-person adoption events in collaboration with shopping malls, where rescued animals are brought in, allowing people to meet them.
