Shanghai's iconic Nanjing Road Pedestrian Mall will celebrate its 26th anniversary during the upcoming National Day holiday with a gold bar lucky draw.

Shoppers who spend at designated stores can enter the draw for a chance to win one of 14 custom-made 50-gram gold bars. Other prizes include department store vouchers worth 1,000 yuan (US$140) and food coupons worth 500 yuan.

Every 126 yuan spent earns one entry. The more a shopper spends the more entries they get. Winners will be announced daily through the WeChat program "Golden Encounter on Nanjing Road (金喜相逢南京路)."

The gold bars are limited-edition pieces marking the street's anniversary. They feature designs inspired by landmarks along Nanjing Road. Organizers said they combine Shanghai's historic style with modern architecture.

Shoppers can also buy the commemorative bars from New World City and Daimaru Department Store starting Saturday.

The anniversary event also showcases new products from Shanghai's traditional brands. Local shops are offering mooncakes with unusual flavors such as soy sauce, cuttlefish ink, and seaweed. Organizers said the aim is to connect local traditions with modern tastes.

Nanjing Road, known as China's "No. 1 Commercial Street," attracts millions of visitors during the annual National Day holiday, known as the golden week.

This year the holiday will run from October 1 to 8.
