Roche Diagnostics Suzhou Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

The Swiss Chamber of Commerce in China co-hosted its inaugural Innovation Day in partnership with Roche Diagnostics Suzhou at the Roche Diagnostics Asia Manufacturing and R&D Site in Suzhou, celebrating a significant milestone – the 10th anniversary of Roche Diagnostics Suzhou.

As the flagship event of SwissCham's new Innovation-Digital-Sustainability (IDS) Committee series for 2025-2026, this high-profile gathering convened Swiss and Chinese leaders from industry, academia, regulatory bodies, and healthcare institutions to explore collaborative pathways toward transformative, patient-centered healthcare solutions.

In celebration of a decade of pioneering contributions to China's healthcare ecosystem, Roche Diagnostics Suzhou announced the establishment of a joint lab in collaboration with the Suzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Additionally, they introduced the locally manufactured LC PRO instrument, a system designed to integrate instrumentation, consumables, reagents, and data management, facilitating a semi-automated workflow for polymerase chain reaction-based nucleic acid testing.

Officials from Roche Diagnostics announced that the day included a special anniversary ceremony celebrating Roche Diagnostics Suzhou's 10 years of innovation, localization, and impact in China. Since establishing its Suzhou site in 2015, the company has significantly expanded its presence in diagnostics manufacturing, research and development, and supply chain resilience – reinforcing Switzerland's reputation as a global leader in MedTech and life sciences.

The lab employs an innovative collaboration model to achieve highly efficient resource sharing and the leveraging of capabilities from both parties. It represents a key step in Roche Diagnostics' localization strategy and is expected to serve as a model for the innovative integration and development of Suzhou's biomedicine industry and public health services.

Roche Diagnostics emphasized that the lab signifies not just a partnership between two facilities but also a shared commitment to the "Healthy China" Initiative.

In line with its "in China, for China" strategy, Roche Diagnostics Suzhou has initiated an expansion project with an investment of 3 billion yuan (US$424 million) to enhance its existing site in Suzhou.

The site expansion, expected to be operational by 2028, will focus on building new plants for reagent and instrument production and localizing the manufacturing of key diagnostic products to meet future business needs.

Company officials stated that the site expansion reaffirms Roche Diagnostics' commitment to providing innovative diagnostic solutions for Chinese patients, enabling earlier and more effective detection and monitoring of diseases. This expansion will also enhance the entire value chain, including R&D, manufacturing, and distribution, allowing for faster delivery of reagents and instruments to patients.

"This facility is part of a global network of numerous manufacturing facilities, and it is important for us, especially with China as our second-largest market. It serves as a gateway to the broader Asia-Pacific region, facilitating access to patients beyond China. Additionally, it helps us reduce the complexity of our logistics when shipping our products worldwide," stated Richeal Cline, head of Diagnostics Global Operations.
