Ink-wash paintings are highlight of Bowring Auction

The preview of the 2020 Bowring Auction Beijing will be held from September 21 to 23 at the Double Tree by Hilton Shanghai Jing’an.

It also marks a series of events to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of Bowring Auction Beijing.

According to the organizer, nearly 1,200 items ranging from ancient ink-wash paintings and calligraphy, modern ink-wash paintings and canvases to antiques will go under the hammer at the auction on October 15 and 16 at the Kerry Hotel Beijing.

A highlight of the preview is Shi Tao’s “The Landscape of Zhexianlou,” the biggest size (188x93cm) of Shi’s work to ever appear at market. Shi (1642-1707), a great master of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), was widely recognized for his creativity in depicting landscapes, flowers and birds, and animals on rice paper.

Another noted work is “Splendor of Spring” created by Fu Baoshi (1904-65) in 1945. Hailing from Xinyu, Jiangxi Province, Fu went to Japan to study the history of Oriental art at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in the 1930s. He then brought Japanese visual elements to Chinese ink-wash painting techniques. Fu was well-known for fusing an old and elegant atmosphere into his paintings.
